Campaigns : Halt to frozen chickens !
Halt to frozen chickens ! In 2004, our partner in Cameroon, ACDIC (Association
Citoyenne de Défense
des Intérêts Collectifs) called upon SOS Faim and other NGOs
in Europe to consider the problem of massive exports of European frozen
poultry to Africa. A campaign against such imports had been started in
Cameroon and other African countries. SOS Faim took over this campaign
in Luxembourg and Belgium, with
actions to inform the public and to mobilize
it, revealing the incoherence of current policies and showing different
standards as to the respect of international trade rules.
In Luxembourg, SOS Faim took the following actions:
- publication of a White Book «Frozen Chicken, mortally dangerous» ;
- petition campaign « My chicken, my chick ! » ;
- information visits in schools. More than 350 young people met Léonard, member of ACDIC ;
- public conferences, radio animations, press reports…
The campaign was a success: in Cameroon politicians got «goose pimples » and are making efforts to obtain reductions or even a total halt of imports of frozen poultry cuts… wait and see!
