Campaigns : Make poverty history !
The campaign Make poverty history ! – Pour en finir avec la faim ! is supposed to explain to the public the underlying causes of food insecurity, and to prove that hunger is not a fatality. The campaign reminds us that food sovereignty is a fundamental right of any citizen anywhere and asks the public to react accordingly.
With concrete examples the campaign tries to show how widespread hunger can be in our world today. SOS Faim presents some of the main causes which prevent farmers, those who toil the soil, to produce the food they need. The campaign also indicates possible solutions to improve the situation.
In 2005 the programme was :
- from 11 to 17 October : poster campaign (pdf) in Luxembourg city with distribution of an information bulletin (pdf - in French) on the problems.
- from 17 to 23 October : photo exhibition at the Cercle municipal (place d’Armes). From 10am to 7 pm. Portraits of African men and women ho are hit by food shortages but who are fighting to overcome. Free admission.
- 22 and 23 October : animation in a tent at Place d’Armes, simulation of an African market, interactive games, meeting with a farmer from Cameroon and microfinance institutions. Free admission.
