4 farmers' organisations: ADEAC, BINUM, NOWEFOR and CROPSEC.
ADEAC: Association pour le Développement intégral
des Agriculteurs du Centre. ADEAC (central region) is mainly
concerned with the development of three crops : cocoa, palm oil
and bananas. In 2004 ADEAC launched its own microfinance system:
552 members have accumulated savings amounting to 7,5 million FCFA (11.444
EUR).
Outstanding credits are limited to 1,6 million FCFA (2.439 EUR).
BINUM: An association of small producers in the West. BINUM (western region), with 1.307 members has been supporting the same crops, less cocoa and no potatoes, peanuts and manioc. The micro finance system « BINUM Tontine » has made progress: 15 agencies with 2.675 members (29% women) : savings and credit volumes reach 110 million de FCFA (167.694 EUR). Repayment rate is 97%. 66% of credits go to agriculture.
NOWEFOR: Northwest farmer’s organisation. NOWEFOR (north-west region) made efforts to overcome its internal crisis in 2003. Agricultural production mainly concerns potatoes and ginger. Cattle vaccination campaigns have been organized and stocks of farm supplies have been created. Finally, NOWEFOR has developed a micro finance system with 4 centres, each of which handles credits worth about 5 million FCFA, (7.622 EUR). Savings again have grown in 2004 (+7,3%) to reach an average of 20.400 FCFA (31 EUR) per member. Repayement rate is 91%.
CROPSEC:
Conseil Régional des Organisations paysannes de
la Partie Septentrionale du Cameroun. (Regional Council for Farmers’ Organizations). For CROPSEC
finally, (extreme-north), various actions deserve to be mentioned :
Integration of women as members, cattle vaccinations, stockpiling and marketing
of peanuts. CROPSEC also manages a network of 9 savings and credit agencies
(CMEC) for 1854 members (55% women) with rather modest performances though.
N.B. Although financial support comes from both SOS Faim, the coaching
is entirely secured by SOS Faim Luxembourg.
