Amis-Kivu has undertaken a sustainable agricultural development program in KIVU.

Congo Kinshasa : Amis-Kivu

An unacceptable situation. In the Congo Democratic Republic the rural population accounts for over 85% of the population and agriculture represents often the main source of income of rural families. Unfortunately, this population lives under precarious condition and the  practice of agriculture has become extremely difficult due to the succession of wars and its many consequences: looting, insecurity and the displacement of populations.
The Friends of Kivu, association founded in 2004 is located in east Congo, in the province of South Kivu and active especially in the areas bordering Lake Kivu. Is based in Bukavu. This area is characterized by a demographic explosionCopyright SOS Faim - All rights reserved which entails a shortage of arable land. In addition, whatever arable land there is has been overly cultivated and impoverished.

A people serving project. “The Friends of Kivu”,  is carrying out a program designed to fight poverty in rural areas and to inject new life in agriculture, livestock raising and fisheries. Its purpose is to contribute to the undergoing efforts to reach alimentary security in Kivu  through the improvement of foodstuff production. This is done in cooperation with local associations for the benefit of the rural population as a whole.
Its background as an association dedicated to emergency assistance and development programs, it has got a good reputation and the trust of the people it serves.

An agriculture that produces results. This association’s work involves taking into consideration  the local situation, the environment  and the solutions.
For example, if a village’s problem is land erosion, it will work with local associations to plan hedges and trees capable of regenerating the soil along with the use of compost. Plants are grown in nurseries managed by the local people.
At the same time, this association tries to introduce the practice of corrals to keep their livestock (goats, pigs etc) from treading over newly planted areas. Altogether it is a collaboration which benefits from the association’s efforts.

We need you to carry on. To keep assisting the Friends of Kivu in laying out the plans for the development of agriculture and livestock we need this year: Euros 27.829.
